Building a Workplace Where Diversity Becomes Strength
五十嵐 隆
At the National Center for Child Health and Development, we are fostering an environment in which staff members from diverse backgrounds—including differences in gender, age, disability status, experience, and values—can fully utilize their individual strengths. We are also enhancing work arrangements and institutional systems to accommodate life-stage changes such as childbirth, child-rearing, and family caregiving, with the aim of creating a workplace where everyone can engage in healthcare and research with confidence and peace of mind.
When diverse perspectives and ways of thinking come together, new ideas and innovations emerge, leading to improved healthcare delivery and stronger research outcomes. Through the promotion of diversity, the Center will continue to contribute to pediatric and perinatal care, as well as to the advancement of women’s health.

Guided by the principle “For the happiness of all children and families,” the National Center for Child Health and Development brings together diverse individuals across healthcare, research, and support services. We value a culture in which people of different genders, professions, areas of expertise, and life stages learn from one another, support one another, and build on their respective strengths.
In both clinical and research settings, the interaction of diverse perspectives gives rise to new discoveries and solutions. Diversity is not merely a guiding ideal—it is the driving force that enhances the quality and creativity of our work. By creating environments where everyone can express their abilities authentically, we aim to foster a place where the next generation can take on new challenges with confidence.

For us, diversity is not simply a matter of increasing numbers. It means respecting differences in gender, age, work styles, life stages, and values, and supporting one another so that everyone can exercise their abilities and contribute their strengths, regardless of circumstance. This is the vision of a diverse workplace that the National Center for Child Health and Development seeks to realize.
Across healthcare, research, education, and everyday life, we are committed to cultivating environments in which each individual is respected and able to take on challenges with confidence and peace of mind. Not only “for women,” but “for everyone to live authentically.” Guided by this belief, we will continue to share and advance NCCHD’s own approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
